One man dead in early Saturday morning accident on IH-40 West near Bell...
On April 2nd, at 2:12 AM, officers were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover crash in the 5300 block of West IH-40, South Frontal Road. Responding officers found that a black 2009 Dodge pickup had been east bound entering I-40 just east of Bell Street. The driver of the Dodge, a WM, 33 of Amarillo, lost control as he was entering the highway. The vehicle rolled and went up the embankment. A passenger in the vehicle, David Christopher Lewis, WM, 34 was ejected. Lewis died at the scene as a result of injuries received from the crash. Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson has ordered an autopsy. The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officers believe that speed and alcohol are factors in this crash. The passenger’s failure to wear a safety belt contributed to the severity of the injuries he received. The driver’s name can be released if he is booked into jail or formally charged in this accident. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
