DATE/TIME: April 5, 2016 / 0930 hrs.

INCIDENT: Suspect Arrested for Two Commercial Burglaries

LOCATION: Verizon Wireless, Big Bear Lake
Blauers Ski and Board Shop, Big Bear Lake

SUSPECT: Joseph Hendry, 32-year-old, resident of Escondido

SUMMARY:
Shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2nd, deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a commercial burglary at the Verizon Wireless store in Big Bear Lake. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a suspect used a rock to break a storefront window, forced entry into the business, stole two cell phones, and immediately fled the scene.

While conducting a search of the area, deputies observed a male subject matching the description of the suspect walking behind local businesses in the area of Knight Avenue and Big Bear Boulevard. When the subject saw the deputies approach him, he attempted to hide behind a dumpster. The male, later identified as Joseph Hendry, was determined to be the suspect from the burglary at the Verizon Wireless store. Hendry was taken into custody without incident. The stolen cell phones were found on Hendry’s person. As they were taking the suspect into custody, deputies were informed by a business owner that Hendry had stolen a t-shirt from Blauers Ski and Board Shop. The t-shirt was also found to be on Hendry’s person.

Joseph Hendry was booked into the Big Bear Jail on felony charges of Commercial Burglary. A records check revealed that Hendry is a parolee. Deputies contacted Hendry’s parole agent and a hold was placed on him for violation of the terms and conditions of his parole. Suspect Joseph Henry remains in custody without the possibility of bail, pending an arraignment hearing scheduled for April 5. The property that was stolen by Hendry was released back to the business owners.
