Canyon High will be presenting the "Every 15 Minute" program on 4/7/2016. First Responder equipment will be in the area.
What is Every 15 Minutes?
Every 15 Minutes is a nationwide program designed to initiate forethought as to what choices teenagers will make about drinking alcohol and driving. Peer pressure has such an overpowering effect on spur-of-the-moment circumstances that being prepared to say no and having a platform for good decision-making can be life-saving tools. Every 15 Minutes is so named because every 15 minutes someone in the United States dies in an alcohol-related crash.
Every 15 Minutes at Canyon High
Every 15 Minutes is actually a two-day drinking awareness program involving students, parents, and community members. Canyon High School will be presenting this program to its student body on Thursday, April 7, through the setting of a mock drunk driving car crash resulting in the deaths of two of our students. Canyon residents can expect to see multiple police vehicles and ambulances and a LifeStar helicopter on campus during the mock crash event.
The program will continue throughout the day as we announce the deaths of numerous students by reading their obituaries, painting their faces white and hanging their tombstone in the commons area.
Our speaker for the assembly will be Sean Carter. Sean was the front seat passenger in a one vehicle crash that occurred in 2005. The driver of the vehicle (a college friend) was drunk. Sean’s life was forever changed by the crash and the injuries he received. He had numerous internal injuries, and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He is unable to talk, but he has a lot to say! He presents his experiences in a unique way that establishes immediate rapport with his audience. For more information about Sean, visit www.whenseanspeaks.org.

CISD and the Canyon Police Department are committed to do all we can to discourage underage drinking and to encourage positive decision-making for our students.
As we approach the end of year activities such as prom and graduation, we hope this program will make our students aware of their choices and consequences.
