Former County Social Worker Arrested for Elder Abuse and Grand Theft

During the month of September 2015, the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services contacted the Corona Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit regarding one of their employees being accused of theft. A criminal investigation was conducted by Sr. Detective Craig Taylor who discovered evidence supporting the theft allegation.

The former county employee, Christine Tovar, worked for Adult Protective Services for the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services. One of Tovar’s elderly clients claimed Tovar stole cash and checks totaling $18,000. During the investigation, Sr. Detective Taylor located a second elderly victim and determined that Tovar stole an additional $4,000 from this second client.

On April 7, 2016, at about 9 a.m., Christine Tovar turned herself into the Corona Police Department where she was arrested for two counts of Financial Elder Abuse and five counts of Grand Theft.

If anyone has information related to this case, or believes they were victimized by Tovar, please contact Corona Police Sr. Detective Craig Taylor at 951-736-2348 or by email at [email protected].
