Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of North Vernon Woman
Vernon-Yesterday, shortly after midnight, the Indiana State Police conducted a traffic stop on State Road 7 near Vernon, Indiana that led to the arrest of a North Vernon woman on drug and child neglect charges.
The investigation which led to the arrest of Kathy Hensley, age 64, North Vernon, Indiana began when Trooper Randel Miller conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Ranger for a traffic infraction. During the course of the stop, Trp. Miller became suspicious of criminal activity. Trp. Miller’s K-9 Jinx was deployed and alerted to the odor of an illegal drug coming from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately eight grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, pills, and items of drug paraphernalia. Hensley was arrested without incident and transported to the Jennings County Jail. Two juvenile females, who were also in the vehicle, were transferred to the custody of their parents.
Hensley faces the following charges:
Dealing Methamphetamine, level 4 felony
Possession of Methamphetamine, level 5 felony
Neglect of a Dependent (2 counts), level 5 felony
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, class A misdemeanor
Possession of Marijuana, class B misdemeanor

Trp. Miller was assisted by other members of the Indiana State Police Criminal Interdiction Team including Troopers Rick Hewitt, Matt Powell, and Zachariah Ruble.
