Vehicles Targeted in Crimes
Since January 1, 2016, the Sausalito Police Department has taken 28 reports of crimes such as auto burglaries, thefts from vehicles, and stolen vehicles. These incidents have occurred at various locations throughout the City of Sausalito with residential areas within the hills reporting an increase in activity. The thefts are occurring at night and during the early morning hours. The suspects are targeting unlocked and locked vehicles with property that is visible from outside of the vehicle. The suspects are ransacking the vehicles and stealing those items of value that can be removed quickly.
Several other communities within the Bay Area as well as the State have seen an increase in crimes against vehicles over the last two years.
These types of crimes are often crimes of opportunity and can be drastically reduced by community members practicing simple crime prevention methods such as:
• Take all valuables out of vehicles.
• Close/lock your vehicles doors.
• Roll up your vehicles windows.
The Sausalito Police Department is asking for the community’s help in solving or preventing similar crimes. Please report any suspicious incidents, persons, or vehicles that you see in your neighborhoods.
If anyone in the community notices anything that looks suspicious, they are encouraged to call the police department at 289-4170, or dial 911 for emergencies and crimes in progress.
