Who You Gonna Call?

9-1-1 How Can I Help You?

So simple, yet so profound…When you hear that calming voice on the other end of your phone, you know someone is ready and trained to help you.

Rarely do they ever get a chance to meet the hundreds of people who call for help, yet the people in need depend on their voice, their directions, and their knowledge to get through an emergency. There is no such thing as a routine day at dispatch.

CHP Dispatchers deal with calls from a minor traffic accident, while the next is a frantic voice screaming for help. Both will be depending on their calm, firm voice and direction until help can arrive.

Dispatchers utilize state-of-the-art equipment and training. That combination gives them the opportunity to provide the excellent service and security people have come to expect from the California Highway Patrol.

Dispatchers from the Los Angeles Communication Center in the month of February 2016 answered more than 150,000 emergency calls. That’s averaging more than 5,000 calls a day in a 24 hour period.

This job is not for everyone. It is the nature of the job that, at any time, an emergency call will require immediate attention and response. Dispatchers work 24/7 and 365 days a year. Without their dedication and service those calls would go unanswered.

Few can remain calm and even tempered during emergency situations, it’s at that moment the chosen few can be called a CHP Public Safety Dispatcher.
