PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF April 11, 2016 – April 17, 2016

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Fraud: A report of fraud was called into the Police Department. This is currently under investigation.

Animal at Large: A white Poodle was running free on Egan Dr. The Animal Control officer attempted to capture it but the dog ran to its owner.

Animal Impound: A yellow lab was running free in the Alpine Woods area. The Animal Control officer captured it and took it to the Animal Shelter.

Animal at Large: A neighbor called to report a dog kept coming on her porch and causing damage. The Animal Control officer responded to the area and spoke to the owner of the dog. He issued a verbal warning to the owner.

Animal at Large: A black lab was running free in the Blackgold subdivision. The owner of the dog was contacted and the animal was returned to the owner before the Animal Control officer arrived.

Animal Impound: A caller reported that a large dog was in her yard. She requested an officer to pick up the animal. The animal was impounded and taken to the animal shelter.

Animal Impound: A caller reported a dog running free and she had it tied up and requested someone to pick it up. An Officer responded and impounded the animal.

Traffic Hazard: A report of equipment parked in the roadway was received. An Officer responded to the area but there was nothing obstructing the roadway when the officer arrived.

Stalking Order: A no stalking order was served to an individual.

Disturbance Noise: Caller reported that her neighbors were fighting. Officers made contact with the home owner and she was the only one home.

Agency Assist: Officers assisted the EMS crew with a medical call.

Safety Hazard: A needle was reported to be in the snow bank by Ruth Pond. Officers disposed of the syringe, no needles were found.

Reckless Driving: A caller reported that a red pickup truck with grill lights was driving recklessly, passing vehicles on Dayville Road. Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle. The caller did not want to sign a citation, therefore the driver received a warning.

Fraud: An individual reported that a person identifying himself as an employee from Microsoft wanted to gain access to his computer remotely. Permission was not granted and the individual hung up on the caller.

Suspicious Vehicle: A juvenile reported that a red van, driven by a male about 20 years of age with a passenger about the same age, drove by and the driver was staring at her, making her uncomfortable. The van drove by, and made a u turn and came back towards her. She took out her phone and the van sped off.

Serve Time: Krystal Penayah, DOB: 11/22/95, of Glennallen, checked in to the Valdez Jail to serve three days on a DUI conviction.



04/15

Information: SERVS called to report that they would be working on the Fire Alarm system.

Traffic Hazard: Caller reported a rock slide in the canyon, large rocks on the roadway. Officers responded to put out flares, while DOT was notified. DOT cleared the rocks.

Curfew: At 1:56am, a juvenile was picked up and transported home. The juvenile has already received two curfew convictions. Officers made contact with the parent.

Animal Impound: A dog was impounded on West Lowe for the second time this week.

Public Service: A VPD officer gave a presentation to the “Mothers of Preschoolers Group” on Internet Safety.

Serve Time: David A. Smith, DOB: 7/19/97, of Valdez, checked in to the Valdez jail to serve 100 days on One Charge of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and One Charge of Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor.

Bar Disturbance: VPD dispatch received a report of an individual who was refusing to leave the bar. Officers made contact with the person who agreed to leave for the night.

04/16

Stop & FI: Officers made contact with two individuals in separate vehicles at the Dayville/Rich intersection. Individuals stated they were sleeping in their vehicle for the night waiting for a friend to be released from jail.

Bar Disturbance: VPD dispatch received a report that a female patron was refusing to leave the bar. She had decided to leave before the officers arrived.

Stop & FI: Officers made contact with two individuals who looked like they were trying to break into a vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was one of the individuals and he had locked his keys in the vehicle.

Theft of Property: A caller reported that a guy just took some stuff from the dock area. This case is under investigation.






04/17

Possible Drunk Driver: Around 1:40 am, VPD received a report of a possible drunk driver. Officers made contact with the driver and ran him through FST’s. Subject was let go.

Theft of Property: A caller reported that two guys were trying to take parts off of vehicles at the Baler. Subjects were trying to find an oil plug from the junk cars the Fire Department uses for training. Subjects were advised were not to be on the property after hours or take things without permission.
