Glendale, CA – The City of Glendale is offering a $50,000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and felony conviction of the hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of 81 year old Martiros Arutyunyan of Glendale.

On April 16, 2016 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Arutyunyan was legally crossing Broadway from Belmont Street when he was struck by a white sedan. After the collision, the suspect vehicle fled the scene eastbound on Broadway. The pedestrian sustained head injuries and later passed away at the hospital.

In the course of the investigation, Glendale detectives have released video surveillance in hopes of identifying the driver of the white sedan.
As a result of the collision, the vehicle sustained damage to the headlight based on evidence located at the scene. The vehicle may also have damage to the front bumper, hood and windshield.

“We are hopeful with the reward being offered that someone will come forward and provide information that will assist detectives with identifying the driver of this vehicle,” said Chief Robert Castro. “Responsible driving behavior and defensive driving are actions that are vital to avoid a tragedy such as this one.”

The Glendale Police Department Traffic Unit continues their investigation; however, the communities help is needed to identify the driver of this vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the driver or who recognizes the vehicle description is encouraged to call 818-548-4911. On February 23, 2016, the Glendale City Council approved an ordinance establishing a procedure for the city manager to offer and approve the payment of a reward in response to a hit and run incident or other serious crime. This is the first reward offered under the new city ordinance. "This is a tragic event. I am deeply saddened by this loss and express my sincere condolences to the family,” stated Mayor Paula Devine. “It is my hope and that of the entire city council, that this offer of a reward will help bring this hit and run driver to justice."

The Glendale Police Department would like to remind everyone that strict traffic enforcement has been in place and will continue through 2016. Drive defensively and avoid distractions.
