Decatur County-This morning, at approximately 7:37 a.m., the Indiana State Police and Decatur County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle personal injury crash on State Road 3 at Main Street in Westport, Indiana.
According to the initial investigation by Trooper Matthew Holley, a 1992 Buick LeSabre being driven by Richard E. LaFlower, age 80, Westport, Indiana was traveling eastbound on Main Street in Westport when he attempted to turn northbound onto State Road 3. He turned into the path of a southbound 2001 Nissan Altima being driven by Michael K. Martin, age 42, North Vernon, Indiana. The vehicles collided nearly head on at the intersection.
As a result of the collision, LaFlower was transported to the Decatur County Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Decatur County Coroner. Both Martin and a 17 year old passenger in Martin’s vehicle were transported to the Decatur County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
State Road 3 was closed for about an hour for crash investigation and cleanup.
Richard LaFlower’s family has been notified.
Trp. Holley was assisted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Decatur County EMS, Westport Fire Department, and the Decatur County Coroner’s Office.
