ISP K-9 Unit Captures Armed Robbery Suspect
Madison County – Shortly before 12:30 a.m. this morning, ISP radio put out a dispatch for Pendleton District Troopers to watch for a reported stolen red 1997 Ford Ranger pickup. ISP radio had received information from Muncie Police Dispatch that the truck had just been used in an armed robbery attempt at the Muncie Food Mart on Madison St. in Muncie, and was being driven by an armed male suspect.
Less than five minutes later, Pendleton District K-9 Trooper Kendrick Donald got behind the vehicle on SR 67 going into Daleville. The truck refused to stop when Trooper Donald activated his lights, and continued on into Madison County. In the Chesterfield area of CR 500 E. and SR 32, the 17 year old male juvenile suspect bailed out armed with a handgun and ran.
Trooper Donald “deployed” his K-9 partner, who gave chase and quickly apprehended and disarmed the suspect. The juvenile suspect, who listed an Indianapolis address, was transported to IU Health’s Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie where he received treatment for dog bites to his arm and leg. After receiving treatment he was lodged in a juvenile detention center. The stolen pickup truck was returned to its owner.
Any questions reference the armed robbery and stolen vehicle should be referred to the Muncie Police Department.
