Operation Chill®: Campbell Police Department Partners with 7-Eleven to Reward Kids for Good Deeds
Be on the lookout, Campbell Police Officers are on Slurpee® patrol. For the 21st year, 7-Eleven is partnering with law enforcement agencies nationwide to reward kids for acts of kindness and positive activities with free Slurpee drink coupons through Operation Chill.
Operation Chill was developed by 7-Eleven to positively reward and encourage good behavior by kids during the hot summer months, when many communities experience increases in loitering, shoplifting and graffiti. This popular community service program is designed to enhance relations between officers and young people, as a way to encourage dialogue in a non-threatening, non-law enforcement situation. Since starting in Philadelphia in 1995, the program has expanded to cities across the country. More than 15 million Operation Chill coupons have been distributed to hundreds of law enforcement agencies in areas where 7-Eleven operates stores. During 2016, up to 1.28 million coupons will be issued nationally.
Campbell Police Officers will be "ticketing" youngsters who are caught in the act of doing good with Slurpee beverage coupons. Appropriate "offenses" might include wearing helmets while riding bikes, picking up trash or helping others. Each coupon can be redeemed for a small Slurpee drink at participating 7-Eleven stores.
"We value positive relationships between our officers and the youth in our community," said Campbell Police Chief Dave Carmichael. "Operation Chill gives us a positive reason to approach kids and just thank them for being good citizens."
