Suspects wanted in connection with 3 armed robberies in San Gabriel Mountains in custody, property recovered.
Between April 15, 2016, and April 30, 2016, three armed robberies occurred in the late night and early morning hours adjacent to Highway 39 in the San Gabriel Mountains. In each of the robberies, a male and female armed with a shotgun accosted victims who were parked on the roadside. The robbers targeted victims in this remote area and stole purses, cell phones, wallets, and other personal property. The suspect vehicle in each robbery was described as a white cube-style small SUV.
The third robbery occurred on April 30, 2016, at about 3:00 a.m. Deputies in the area of the robbery located the described suspect vehicle disabled on Highway 39 near mile marker 19. The car, a white 2010 Scion XB, appeared to have been involved in a solo collision with a guard rail.
Deputies detained the occupants of the Scion, a male and a female. Victims of the April 30th robbery positively identified the occupants as the persons who robbed them. The suspects were identified as Juan Manuel Plazola, Hispanic male, age 20, of La Puente, and Deanna Marie Campillo, Hispanic female, age 23, of El Monte.
The suspects were in possession of a shotgun, a replica pistol, and property stolen in the recent robbery.
Plazola was booked for armed robbery at San Dimas Station, and held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Campillo was transported to Century Regional Detention Facility and booked for armed robbery, with bail set at $100,000.
On May 2, 2016, detectives obtained a search warrant for additional evidence in the suspect’s vehicle. Additional property from the previous robberies was located inside the suspect’s vehicle. Both suspects are scheduled to appear at West Covina Superior Court on May 3, 2016.
The three armed robberies occurred as follows:
April 15, 2016, at about 3:30 a.m. near mile marker 23.
April 26, 2016, at about 11:50 p.m. near mile marker 21.70.
April 30, 2016, at about 2:55 a.m. near mile marker 21.
In each case, a male and a female were parked at roadside turnouts. All victims were in their 20’s.
