Greene County Sheriff's Deputies investigate possible case of animal abuse of newborn foal whose photo was posted on social media
This past weekend, Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a location near East Farm Road 186 and South Farm Road 219 in southeastern Greene County to investigate allegations of the possible animal neglect of a newborn foal. During the course of this investigation, a photo of the foal emerged on social media prompting several individuals and animal rescue groups to offer resources or assistance.
Greene County Detectives, knowledgeable and experienced in the care of large animals, investigated this situation. They discovered no evidence that the horse owner, who was fully cooperative had abused or neglected this newborn foal. The foal's owner also owns several other horses which appeared to be well cared for. Detectives learned the foal, born a few days ago, was observed by the owner and other witnesses as recently as Friday, walking around the pasture. The owner who resides in Douglas County was made aware of the situation with the newborn on Sunday where he took immediate action, seeking and following veterinary advice and attempting to nourish the foal. Unfortunately, the foal did not survive.
The owner allowed a thorough inspection of his horses and other animals in both Greene and Douglas counties. There was no evidence of abuse or neglect discovered at either location. The investigation into alleged abuse has been completed and is unfounded. The death of this foal is an unfortunate situation however it is not the result of owner neglect or abuse.
