Advisory

City Workers Impersonated

On May 3, 2016, just after 1:30 pm, two men wearing orange safety vests with the City of Davis printed on them spoke with a resident in the 2100 block of Alameda Ave. The two men claimed to be at the residence to repair the sprinkler timers. While speaking with the resident, one of the men asked about dogs on the premises. Since this incident, the City of Davis has verified that these men were not City of Davis employees.

The Davis Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind community members that City of Davis employees carry identification cards and should present them upon request. If those claiming to be City of Davis employees are unable to produce an identification card, the resident can call their associated department to verify the work to be performed at their residence. In addition, the police department can also be called to verify their identity.

There have been instances in the past where suspects pose as utility workers to commit various crimes such as residential burglaries and copper theft. If you see suspicious people in your neighborhood, you are urged to contact the Davis Police Department. The Police Department also encourages neighborhoods to form Neighborhood Watch groups as an additional security measure.

The two men were described as White male adults, both approximately 50 years old. One was average height and build with short gray hair and clean cut. The other was only described as slender.
