HOBART MAN AIRLIFTED FROM CRASH ON I-65
Jasper County-A Hobart man was airlifted from a crash on I-65 in Jasper County when he rolled his pickup three times.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Martin Benner revealed at approximately 10:59 a.m., this Friday morning, a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, driven by Joseph B. Ellul, 33 of Hobart, was south bound on I-65 at the 216 mile marker (this is one mile north of the Rensselaer exit) in the left lane when he hit the rear of the car ahead of him. That vehicle, a 2016 Kia Sedona, driven by Jean C. List, 57 of Oak Park, Illinois, had damage to her rear bumper and was not injured.
Ellul’s pickup after hitting the Sedona, went around the Sedona to the inner shoulder, over corrected and went back off the roadway to the right, where it rolled 3 times before landing upright in the grassy/brush area. Ellul who was wearing his seat belt, had to be extricated from the pickup and was transported by ambulance to a business located just off the 215 mile marker exit where he was picked up by an air ambulance and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
Alcohol maybe a factor in this crash. Toxicology results are pending.
Family has been notified.
The right lane was closed for investigation of the crash, removal of the injured and his vehicle.
Assisting: Master Trooper Dwayne Halliburton, Brandon Henderson, Rensselaer Fire Department and Prompt Ambulance
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
