The preliminary investigation shows that a uniformed Muncie Police Officer, driving a fully marked police car, made a traffic stop on a van just before 3 pm. this afternoon on Elgin St. just south of McGalliard St. A plain clothes officer who was nearby came to assist. The driver, who was hit by the gunfire but continued to flee, jumped from the van and fled on foot. He was captured a short distance away and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The officer, who fell from the moving van, was treated for broken bones and non-life threatening injuries.
Two male passengers also jumped from the van as it was moving and fled on foot. They were also caught a short time later. They received treatment for non- life threatening injuries they received from jumping out of the moving van.
