Fugitive registered sex offender Samuel Brett Smith has been located and taken into custody without incident. On 05/06/2016 just after 10:00 pm, 25 year old Smith of Angola was located and apprehended by the Angola Police Department in the 600 block of N Wayne St near Morse St. Angola Police were acting on a tip that was received and were able to locate Smith. Smith was booked into the Steuben County Jail on one count of level 6 felony failure to register as a sex or violent offender. He remains held in lieu of a $2,500.00 bond. The arrest warrant and criminal charges come after a Steuben County Sheriff’s Office investigation into allegations that Smith was not residing at his registered address as required by Indiana’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry law. There Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all those who assisted local law enforcement with tips and information.
