Officers Save Suicidal Subject

SOUTH PASADENA, CA – On May 8, 2016 at approximately 6:10 pm, officers were dispatched to the freeway overpass at Prospect Avenue and Grevelia Street for a report of a suicidal female threatening to jump onto the 110 Freeway. The first officers on scene, Corporal Juan Salcido and Officer Brian Wiley, saw the female subject sitting on the ledge of the overpass, facing the freeway. She was hysterical and yelling while she was talking on her cell phone, threatening to jump. Seeing that she was distracted while talking on the phone, Corporal Salcido, approached the female subject and grabbed her around the waist to pull her off the ledge. She struggled momentarily with Corporal Salcido and with the assistance of Officer Wiley, they were able to safely get her onto the sidewalk.

The female is a twenty year old resident of South Pasadena and she was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Corporal Salcido is a nine year veteran of the police department and Officer Wiley recently graduated from the police academy and was starting his first day on patrol.
