PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF May 2, 2016 – May 8, 2016

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Arrested: Carlson, Donny Scott, DOB 12/30/1993, of Valdez, was arrested on the following charges: Vehicle Theft 1st Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Felony – Vehicle Registration. He is being held at the Valdez Jail pending a $5000 cash and Third Party Custodian bail.

Disturbance Other: A man reported that he and his wife had a verbal altercation. He left the residence for the evening but was concerned that she might be walking around outside and possibly get lost. An Officer responded to the area to look for anyone matching that description.

Suspicious Person: A caller reported two men outside the camper. An Officer responded to the area but did not find anyone in the area.

Stop FI: An Officer stopped a vehicle and discovered the driver did not have a license. A warning was issued to the driver for driving with only an Instructional Permit.

Fraud: A person reported that her credit card had an unauthorized charge on it. This case is currently under investigation.

Harassment: A person reported getting a weird face book message from someone posing as a relative. An Officer spoke with the complainant and this case is currently under investigation.

Fish & Game: A dead animal was reported on the fog line at MP 5. An Officer responded to the area but someone else had removed it.

Animal at Large: A black lab was seen running at the Tide Flats. An Officer responded to the area but the dog would not come to the Officer and ran back towards town.

Public Assist: An Officer responded to the Best Western for Alarms going off and something wrong with the water flow. The Alarms were shut off and the Officer requested the Fire department assist with the problem.

Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested for an intoxicated woman who was locked out of her house. Officers responded to the residence, she was inside and going to bed.

Assist Medical: The Valdez Police Department assisted the Fire Department on a medical call involving a possible heart attack.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a Big State Truck drove through construction at excessive speed. This is currently under investigation.

Vehicle Inspection: An Officer did several commercial vehicle inspections throughout the day.

Trespassing: The City of Valdez reported wood cutting at the pack trail in Keystone canyon. An Officer responded to the area and documented the incident.

Alarm – Panic: A panic and hold up alarm was activated at a local business. An Officer responded and found everything to be fine.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported obnoxiously loud noise coming from a mobile home behind them. Complainant called back to state that the music had been turned down. An Officer drove around the area later that night to make sure everything was still all right.

Theft Vehicle: A caller reported her vehicle was stolen from Safeway. Officers responded to the area and where able to locate the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the owner. An individual had taken the vehicle by mistake, it was very similar to hers.

Stop FI: While on patrol an Officer stopped to talk to a couple of drunken pedestrians that appeared to be fighting. They were not fighting and where friends. No further action was needed.

Vehicle Inspection: An Officer did several commercial vehicle inspections throughout the day.

Public Service: An Officer gave a presentation regarding ballistics to a High School Class.

Theft Property: A fire pit ring about 4 feet in diameter was stolen. This case is currently under investigation.

Animal at Large: A brown and white dog with a limp was reported running around Simmons Trailer court. An Officer responded to the area but the dog had left the area.

Lost Property: A person called to report they lost their wallet somewhere between the Kwik Trip and Harris Sand and Gravel. If found please turn into the Valdez Police Department.

Traffic Complaint: A report of white and red SUV’s speeding into Mineral Creek Canyon was received. An Officer responded to the area and issued both drivers warnings for speed and a citation was issued for violation of provisional license to one of the drivers.

Theft Property: A theft of a Honda generator was reported. Officers responded and seized the Honda generator. This case is currently under investigation.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Damage: A vehicle hit the Sacred Grounds Building. Officers responded to the area to investigate.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Damage: A caller reported a single car rollover in keystone canyon. An Officer responded to the area along with an ambulance. A tow truck was dispatched to claim the vehicle. This is still under investigation.

Animal at Large: A caller reported a white dog dragging a rope and digging into a trash bag, before Officers could respond the owner claimed the dog.

Citizen Contact: While on patrol an Officer made contact with two people in a parked van. He asked them to leave the area since they were on private property.

Animal at Large: A white pit bull was reported loose on the snow lot by the middle school. An Officer responded to the area and retuned the dog to its owner.

Criminal Mischief: A person’s tires were slashed at the Ferry Terminal. This case is currently under investigation.

Fish & Game: A caller reported a wounded eagle with a broken wing on the flats by the AT & T tower. The Animal Control Officer was contacted.

Animal Bite: A report of a child bitten by a dog was received. An Officer investigated and the animal was quarantined. The call was turned over to the Animal Control Officer for follow up.

Harassment: Four juveniles reported being followed by a weird painted van. An Officer investigated the incident and suggested that repainting the van maybe in order.

Domestic Non-Arrest: A report of domestic issues was received. Officers responded to the area and spoke with the parties involved. No further action was needed.

Animal Information: A man passing thru Glennallen was asked to bring an injured dog to the Animal Shelter. The Animal Control Officer took care of the animal and contacted the Veterinarian.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported that his neighbors were being loud again. They were loud until 2am the night before and were starting again. An Officer responded to the area and the party involved agreed to turn the music down.

Harassment: A caller requested an Officer to drive by their residence due to someone ringing the door bell and running off. Officers responded to the area but were unable to find anyone in the area.

Suspicious Vehicle: A report of a dark Ford F150 waiting on the side of the causeway to sneak in the gate was received. An Officer responded to the area and escorted the individuals off of the Valdez Container Terminal.

Citizen Contact: While investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle an Officer saw another person walking along the causeway. He spoke with the individual who had just gotten off a barge and was meeting friends outside the gate.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Damage: A report of a vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Best Western was received. An Officer responded to the area and investigated the accident.

Disturbance Noise: A caller complained of music so loud it rattled the windows in his trailer. An Officer responded to the area and found a bon fire with empty chairs and no music.

Disturbance Noise: A caller reported hearing cussing, screaming and yelling that woke her from a dead sleep. An Officer responded to the area and found a bon fire but nothing out of the norm.

Disturbance Noise: A report of loud noise coming from the Boardroom was received. An Officer responded to the area and spoke with the bouncer who said they would close the glass doors and ask people outside to keep the noise down.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported continuous speeding past Glacier View Court. Barking Dog: A report of a dog continuously barking was received. An Officer responded to the area and found the dogs were tied up with water and no further action needed.

Found Property: Some Camera tripods and case were found by the dock point picnic area. Please call the Valdez Police Department with descriptors of the property to claim.

Animal Surrender: A Springer Spaniel was surrendered because she has food aggression issues and there were small children in the household.

Explosives Problem: An explosion was reported in Alpine Woods by several residences. Officers responded to the area to assist the Fire department.

Theft Vehicle: While on patrol an Officer came across a vehicle that had been stripped of its license plate, and numerous other items. The tow truck was called to remove the vehicle. This case is currently under investigation.
