Car Thief Arrested by Anderson PD

On Tuesday, May 10th 2016, at about 0257 hours, Anderson Police were conducting business checks in the area of Arby Way and Factory Outlets Drive in Anderson. While conducting the checks, 21 year old, Richard Michael Almeda of Sacramento, California, was spotted driving a stolen 2003, Toyota, Tacoma. Almeda took off from an Anderson Police Officer who had simply pulled up behind him at a stop sign in the area.

Almeda put on a display of reckless and evasive driving but was quickly caught and taken into custody during a felony, high risk traffic stop that occurred on the I-5 off ramp at Main Street in Cottonwood, California. Almeda, who is on probation for DUI out of the Sacramento area, was again determined to be DUI during the contact with Anderson Police.

Almeda was transported to the Shasta County Jail where he was booked for auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and DUI. The charges will be forwarded to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
