Arrests made in fatal Tarzana shooting from May 5 #LAPD

Detectives Arrest Man, Woman in Tarzana Murder Case

Tarzana.  Detectives arrested a man and a woman at a motel in the City of San Fernando, yesterday morning, May 9, 2016.  Joseph Perez-Coronel, 22, and Cindy Catalan, 25, were linked to the fatal shooting of a man at the Parc Tarzana Condominiums last week.  The victim has since been identified as Miles Rose, 26, who lived at the complex on Hatteras Street.

“Detectives developed leads from evidence left behind in the abandoned, stolen car at the crime scene, and also from public tips,” said Capt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the West Valley Patrol Division.  “Detectives worked through the weekend, running down these leads.”

Those leads and tips led detectives to Perez-Coronel and Catalan at the motel in the City of San Fernando.  The detectives got a search warrant signed and waited for their suspects to walk out of the motel.  The duo was caught by surprise and surrendered immediately.

Detectives believe the motive behind the shooting was a narcotics robbery.

“We want the residents in the neighborhood to realize the shooting was not random; the persons involved all knew each other, and drug use was at the root,” added Capt. Vernon.  “One thing that has come out of this shooting was a mobilization of the residents in the building and on the block.  Residents partnering with police will always lead to safer neighborhoods.”

Senior Lead Officer Sel Parra met with HOA members of the Parc Tarzana Condominiums yesterday for the purpose of raising awareness and sharing information about crime and other activity in the neighborhood.

Perez-Coronel and Catalan were each booked on a charge of murder, with bail set at $2,000,000.
