“Hands Only” CPR Training
As a part of the world wide “CPR Day” event, local Emergency Medical Service agencies will offer free “hands only” CPR training for members of our community on Wednesday, May 18 at multiple locations throughout the County. Emergency response agencies throughout the world will be participating. Join us here in Santa Barbara County as we attempt to train as many members of our community in “Hands Only” CPR as possible!
Heart disease is the leading cause of death nationally and locally, with an estimated 630,000 deaths per year in the United States and over 700 deaths per year in Santa Barbara County. Approximately 250 cardiac arrest victims are being treated locally each year by the emergency medical services system in Santa Barbara County. The prompt delivery of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) more than doubles a cardiac arrest victim’s change of survival by helping maintain vital blood flow to the heart and brain. Bystander CPR is a crucial element for survival.
Local emergency medical services agencies are joining to offer free “Hands Only” CPR training. Participating agencies include American Medical Response (AMR), Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Montecito Fire Department, Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Department, Santa Maria City Fire Department and Santa Barbara City Fire Department. Each agency will staff one or more locations in the community where the public can go to receive a less than 5 minute training session. It may save a life in the future!
By increasing the number of people trained in “Hands Only” CPR in our community, we can increase the survival rate of cardiac arrest victims. Please join us in saving lives!
