AMTRAK train hits abandoned stolen vehicle that was left on the tracks
On Thursday, May 19th 2016 at approximately 2:54 AM, Anderson Police Officers were dispatched and responded in regard to an Amtrak train verses vehicle traffic collision. Upon checking the area the scene was determined to be near the North Barney cemetery access Rd.
During the course of the investigation it was determined the vehicle had been unoccupied at the time of collision. The area was checked extensively for victims and none were located. Officers also learned the vehicle was a reported stolen vehicle out of the Redding California Highway Patrol Office.
The stolen vehicle sustained major damage and the Amtrak train sustained moderate damage to the front causing it to be temporarily disabled. The Amtrak train is not blocking any major roadways and should not impede any traffic on the nearby intersection of South St or Barney Rd. The North Barney Cemetery access Rd will be closed until early afternoon.
All passengers onboard the Amtrak train were checked for injuries due to the emergency stop and none were reported.
The recovery of the stolen vehicle and evidence collection is still under investigation. Officers are requesting any witnesses to this incident or knowledge of the suspect/suspects contact the Anderson Police Department at (530) 245-6526.
