HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Sheriff Ron Hickman is proud to announce that the Harris County Jail has passed an unannounced inspection from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

Since its inception in 1975, the Texas Commission on Jails Standards (TCJS) has overseen the inspection of county jail facilities throughout the State of Texas. Inspections are conducted at random without prior notification to the host agency.

The unannounced inspection commenced May 6, 2016, and has certified the Harris County Jail’s compliance with State standards.

“I continue to be proud of the dedicated employees of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Nearly 1800 men and women report to work every day to secure the jail environment and provide for the care, custody and control of inmates,” stated Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman. “The Texas Commission on Jail Standards is the leading regulatory commission responsible for oversight of the State’s county jails. Their certification is the affirmation of our hard work to ensure that we meet and frequently exceed jail standards.”
