The Saluda County Sheriff's Office releases the names of those involved in Old Lexington Rd shooting
The Saluda County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the parties involved in the shooting on Old Lexington Road on Friday, May 13th 2016.
Shortly after 5:00pm, Lt. Russ Padget and Deputy Dale Hallman of the Saluda County Sheriff's Office, and three Lexington County deputies, were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Samuel Huguenin, Jr.
In the course of the apprehension, Huguenin drove his car into the police vehicle the deputies were in. After an exchange of gunfire with Saluda Deputies, during which the suspect was hit, he was taken into custody.
In the incident, Lt. Padget was also injured when Huguenin's car struck the police vehicle. Padget was treated for minor injuries and then released. Huguenin remains in the hospital, and is being guarded around the clock by Saluda County Jail Officers.
SLED is conducting the investigation into the shooting, and those finding will be released upon completion. The officers involved remain on paid administrative leave, which is part of the Saluda County Sheriff's Office department policy with officer involved shootings.
"I'm proud of my deputies," said Sheriff John C. Perry, "under the most extreme circumstances, they maintained their professionalism, apprehended the suspect, and ensured that no one else in the community was hurt in this incident."
