Marijuana Found in Food Sack during Routine Traffic Stop

Vigo County—This afternoon at 2:15, Indiana State Police Master Trooper Jason Schoffstall stopped a silver 2001 Dodge Neon for 51 miles-per-hour in a 30mph zone, westbound on Hulman Street near Watertree Subdivision.

During conversations with the driver, Master Trooper Schoffstall noticed a strong odor of what appeared to be burnt marijuana inside the vehicle as well as other criminal indicators. A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 22 grams of suspected marijuana inside a fast food sack on the front passenger floorboard.

The driver was taken into custody and subsequently refused a chemical test for intoxication.

Arrested:         Michael Austin Rogers, age 23, of Clay City, IN.

                        Taken to Vigo County Jail

Charges:          Operating While Intoxicated-Refusal; Possession of Marijuana; and Possession of Paraphernalia.

No pictures.

Assisting was ISP Master Trooper Hans Nowak.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
