5/23/16, press release: Larceny From A Person - UPDATE

5/26/16 UPDATE: On May 23, 2016 shortly after 11:00 PM the Burlington Police Department responded to the intersection of Church St and College St for a report of a purse snatching. The victim advised that as she was standing at the intersection a male suspect ran by her from behind and grabbed her purse which was held by her writs. The male suspect ran westbound on College Street fleeing the scene while bystanders gave chase. The suspect was able to elude the citizens who gave chase and was last seen in the area of the parking garage on College St. near the intersection of Pine. The victim was not injured.

Detectives assigned to the case were able to identify a number of video sources, all of which captured images of the male suspect. The Burlington Police received numerous tips identifying the suspect in this incident as Jason Vezina, 31 years of age of Burlington, Vermont. Vezina was arrested on this date and subsequently lodged with the Vermont Department of Corrections for lack of $2,500 bail. On 05/26/2016 Vezina will be arraigned on one count of Larceny from a Person, a felony crime with a maximum term of 10 years imprisonment.

Vezina has a criminal history in the State of Vermont which dates back to 2001 that includes 17 charges resulting in convictions for 9 misdemeanor crimes and 1 felony crime. The Burlington Police would like to take this opportunity to thank the media and the public for their combined assistance in solving this crime.

City police are seeking the public’s assistance with identification of the male suspect. Anyone who can identify the male suspect or has information about this crime, are asked to contact Det.
