Indiana State Police ask Motorists to Slow Down & Buckle Up during Holiday Weekend

Memorial Day weekend traditionally starts off the summer travel season, and this weekend is shaping up to be the busiest in the Hoosier state in years.  The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 this weekend and low fuel prices are expected to bring a record number of motorists across Indiana roadways.  The Indiana State Police has an increased number of troopers patrolling the highways with an emphasis placed on the roads leading to Indianapolis.

Law enforcement throughout the state, including the Indiana State Police, will be participating in the Click it or Ticket Campaign and Operation CARE, or Combined Accident Reduction Effort.

Troopers will be looking for aggressive drivers, impaired drivers, and those that don’t buckle up.  According to NHTSA, (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) seatbelts reduce your risk of injury and death in a crash by 50%.

Troopers from the Bremen Post will be completing saturation patrols day and night along US 31, commented Sergeant Trent Smith.  Drivers can expect to see a noticeable increase in police vehicles this weekend.  The goal of the increased patrol is simple.  We want drivers to slow down, respect each other on the road and arrive alive.
