Convicted Felon Arrested After Firing Handgun
On Friday, May 27, 2016, at about 10:28 AM the Anderson Police Department responded to a report of possible gun shots in the area of Toyon St. and Nicole Ct. in the City of Anderson.
The reporting party indicated that her boyfriend, Daniel Bear CAMACHO, age 39, of Anderson had just fired a handgun in close proximity to her. The reporting party indicated CAMACHO was high on methamphetamine and still had the firearm on his person when he fled the scene.
Officers responded to the area and located CAMACHO running in the area of Bay St. and Pinto Ln. Officers placed CAMACHO at gun point and began giving him commands in an attempt to have him surrender peacefully. CAMACHO initially failed to follow commands but eventually complied with the officers orders. CAMACHO was secured into handcuffs without incident. CAMACHO was found to be in possession of a loaded Ruger 9MM handgun.
During an interview with CAMACHO he admitted to being under the influence of both heroin and methamphetamine and to stealing the firearm from a family member in the Shingletown area. CAMACHO stated the firearm accidentally went off after getting into an argument with his girlfriend over a vehicle.
No persons were injured from the shooting.
Due to the proximity to MeadowLane Elementary School, the faculty was contacted and placed the school on lockdown.
A review of CAMACHO’s criminal history revealed him to be a convicted felon on Parole through the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation for first degree burglary, and to have a prior assault with a firearm felony conviction.
CAMACHO was booked into the Shasta County Jail on the following charges:
29800(a) PC – Felon in possession of a firearm. 30305(a)(1) PC – Felon in possession of ammunition. 246 PC – Unlawful discharge of a firearm. 25400(a) PC – Carry a concealed loaded firearm on his person. 215 PC – Carjacking. 11550(e) HS – Possession of a firearm while under the influence of a controlled substance. 3056 PC – Violation of Parole.
