Beware of IRS and Grandchild bail fraud. Both emerging again.
In the past we have posted warnings about two prominent scams. They seem to have emerged again with a greater frequency lately. This first targets elderly grandparents stating their Grandchild has been arrested and requires money for bail. They will attempt to solicit a charge card number to expedite the process and to eliminate the need for the grandparent(s) to go out. The second is a person purporting to be an IRS agent and that back taxes need to be paid immediately, also via credit card, to avoid both arrest and prosecution. Both are scams aimed at obtaining credit card information to facilitate fraudulent transactions. Verify either call if received. Call the police department back and also the IRS does not solicit via telephone. Try to capture the phone number if available and call the police department and report the incident.
