2016 SOBER GRADUATION CAMPAIGN

The Corona Police Department will be kicking off a 2016 Sober Graduation Campaign from June 2 to June 11, 2016. The Corona Police Department is dedicated to making a safe graduation through enforcement, prevention and education.

• A DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint is set for June 3rd at an undisclosed location within the City limits from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

• Roving DUI Saturation Patrols will be deploying from June 2 to June 5.

• Through a Department of Alcohol Beverage Control and Teen Alcohol Enforcement Program Grant, CPD officers will be conducting a Minor Decoy Operation within the City limits between June 8 and June 10.

• On June 11 the Corona Police Department Traffic Bureau will be hosting its “Drive 4 Life” teen driver safety program. This free program will be hosted at the Corona Police Department and will educate teen drivers on Drunk Driving, Speeding, Street Racing, Seatbelts and other Driving Laws. The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely. DUI checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public.

These enforcement efforts are partially funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Remember, everyone is encouraged to help keep our roadways safe; Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911!
