Bristol, Indiana couple injured in motorcycle crash on SR 120 Near Clear Lake - Corrected
On 05/30/2016 just after 3:00 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies were called to SR 120 near the intersection of CR 925 E in rural Clear Lake Township for a motorcycle accident involving injuries. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s deputies located two motorcycles laying along the north side of SR 120 west of the intersection. Through the course of the preliminary crash investigation, it was determined that a black 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 60 year old Brenda Hook of Bristol, IN and a black 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 53 year old Douglas Hook of Bristol, IN were both traveling westbound on SR 120 near CR 925 E. According to witness statements and evidence at the scene, Mrs. Hook's motorcycle drifted off of the north side of the travel portion of the roadway as she was negotiating a curve in the roadway causing her to lose control of the motorcycle on the soft dirt shoulder. For some unknown reason, Mr. Hook's motorcycle also left the north side of the travel portion roadway causing him to lose control on the soft dirt shoulder as well. Both Mr. & Mrs. Hook were ejected off of their motorcycles and collided with the ground causing possible internal injuries. Both riders were wearing helmets preventing more serious injuries and were transported to a Fort Wayne area hospital via the Samaritan helicopter in serious but stable condition. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Clear Lake Police, Fremont Police, Fremont Fire Department, Steuben County EMS, Indiana State Police, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.
