Thanks to the reach of social media and an alert citizen in our neighboring state of Nebraska, the pictured vehicle was located over the Memorial Day weekend. Its driver has been interviewed regarding our recent incidents, and we are currently developing a criminal case in the matter. Once again, we at VPD are thankful for the dedication and the assistance of our community.

Press Release – Vehicle of interest in Vermillion Assault

The Vermillion Police Department is investigating an assault that occurred in Vermillion on the morning of 5/26/16. A white male wearing a mask approached a jogger from behind and assaulted her before fleeing the area. The jogger did not require medical care. On 5/8/16, a similar event occurred and at this time the department believes these events are related. The department is actively pursuing leads and has increased patrols.

The vehicle pictured is a vehicle that was seen in the area. The Vermillion Police wish to identify the vehicle. Believed to be a Chevy Silverado, unknown plate.

The department has posted safety recommendations on its Facebook Site. Vermillion has been and continues to be a safe community. In part, this environment is possible because of the willingness of its citizens to get involved.
