24-yr old inmate charged in assault against GCSO Deputy 
24-year old inmate Jesus Araiza charged in assault against Greene County Sheriff's Deputy
On Saturday, May 28, 2016, Greene County Sheriff's Correctional Officer Deputy Tyler Dodson was assaulted by 24-year old inmate Jesus Araiza. Other inmates advised Correctional staff of Araiza's behavior and concerns for their own safety. When Deputy Dodson attempted to contact Araiza, he was struck multiple times in a surprise attack. During the altercation, Araiza removed Deputy Dodson's handcuffs from his duty belt and struck him several times with the handcuffs.
Deputy Dodson sustained several serious injuries requiring medical attention. The assault left him with multiple fractures in his nose, fractures to his jaw and requiring staples to close wounds.
The Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged Araiza with:
1 - Felony count of 1st Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
(warrant #1631-CR04215, bond amount $200,000.00)
Araiza is currently in the Greene County Jail serving a sentence for a case investigated by the Springfield Police Department.
Deputy Dodson was released from the hospital and has now returned to duty.
