Woman Struck with Hammer Type Weapon In Home, Son Arrested, East Los Angeles Station
Detectives from East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station are investigating the attempt murder of a 54 year-old woman as she lay sleeping in her home.
On Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at approximately 2:35 a.m., East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the 3700 block of Whiteside Street, Los Angeles, regarding a “family disturbance” call. The call was further updated indicating that the suspect had injured a family member with a hammer.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim lay in her bed asleep when she was struck with a hammer type weapon several times. Family members inside the home were awakened by the assault and attempted to restrain the suspect just prior to the deputies’ arrival.
The victim was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition.
The suspect, 27 year-old Gustavo Gonzalez, son of the victim, will subsequently be formally booked at the Inmate Reception Center. He faces Attempt Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Mayhem charges.
A hammer type weapon was recovered at the scene.
