TEEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH MULTIPLE LARCENIES FROM VEHICLES. See Nixle.com for additional details.
A 17 year old Farmington resident has been arrested in connection with multiple larcenies from vehicles which have occurred over the past two weeks. The suspect was observed walking in the area of Shiawassee and Farmington in the early morning hours of May 26th. An officer approached the suspect who stated that he was walking home from a friend’s house. The officer noted that the suspect was carrying a backpack and asked if he could take a look inside. The suspect allowed the officer to search his bag which contained marijuana, drug paraphernalia and numerous cell phone chargers, sunglasses, loose change and other items which matched the descriptions of items stolen from recent car larcenies in the area.
The suspect was arrested for possession of marijuana and the case was turned over to the investigations division. Detectives interviewed the suspect who confessed to entering numerous unlocked cars over the past two weeks on Brookdale Street, Brookdale Condominiums and along Orchard Lake Road to steal items. Charges are pending.
In the meantime, Farmington Public Safety investigators are still trying to identify the owners of numerous pieces of property recovered from the suspect. Anyone who had items stolen from vehicles recently are encouraged to call the Farmington Public Safety Department at 248-474-4700 (Option #2) to schedule an appointment to view and recover those items.
It is important for residents to remember that summer time is the time of year when larcenies from automobiles seem to peak. Most thieves simply target unlocked cars to take anything that may seem valuable. Residents are reminded to remove any valuables and to keep their car doors locked at all times. Keeping driveway and porch lights on overnight is also a good deterrent.
