ISP Investigating Police Action Shooting In Muncie
Muncie – Detectives from the Indiana State Police Pendleton District have been requested to investigate a police action shooting in Muncie, involving officers from the Muncie Police Department. The preliminary investigation shows that Muncie Police responded to 1317 W. 18 St., around 4:19p.m.this afternoon, for a report of domestic violence and a possible stabbing.
When a two man car arrived on the street in front of 1317 W. 18th, they found the stabbing suspect, Larry Stepp, age 31 of Muncie, standing in the edge of the street brandishing a knife. After an initial confrontation with Stepp, the two officers were forced to fire on the suspect.
Stepp was transported to IU Health’s Ball Hospital in Muncie with life threatening injuries that he sustained from self-inflicted knife wounds, and from the officer’s gunfire. Stepp later succumbed to those injuries. An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
A 15 year old female stabbing victim was located inside the residence at 1317 W. 18th. She was also transported to I.U. Health’s Ball Hospital, to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and is still in the preliminary stages. This is all the information that will be released at this time.
