Child Airlifted from Crash on I-65
Jasper County-A five year old boy was airlifted this afternoon when he was a passenger in a truck that lost control and rolled over on I-65.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Glen Fifield revealed at approximately 2:38 p.m., this Sunday, June 5, 2016, afternoon, a 2001 Ford F-350 pick-up, pulling an open bed utility trailer loaded with household goods, was south bound on I-65 at the 204 mile marker (this is one mile south of the Remington exit) when it lost control. The pick-up driven by Terry W. Youngblood Junior, 26, of Lebanon, Tennessee, was in the left lane when the driver’s rear tire blew out. This caused Youngblood to lose control, go across the right lane, and off the roadway to the west ditch. The vehicles rolled once. The pick-up landed upright on its wheels, the trailer landed upside down, spewing household goods across the outer grassy incline.
Bernabe Pena (boy) age 5, was partially ejected from the pickup. He was not in a child restraint. Bernabe was taken to the National Guard Armory in Remington by ambulance and was airlifted from there to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois with unknown injuries. His sister, Bianca Pena, age 7, was taken to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, with non-life threatening injuries. Nallely J. Pinancho, age 30, was also taken to jasper County Hospital with non-life threatening injuires.
Youngblood was cited for Child Restraint violation.
Youngblood, Bernabe and Bianca Pena’s father and another minor child were not injured. The family was moving from Chicago, Illinois to Tennessee when this happened.
