Master Trooper from Whitley County Retires After More Than 25 Years of Service

(Fort Wayne, IN)-The Indiana State Police in Fort Wayne is announcing that Master Trooper L. Brian Bills, a 25 ½ year veteran of the Indiana State Police, and a resident of rural Whitley County has retired from the Department.

Bills, a native of Columbia City, Indiana is a 1982 graduate of Columbia City High School.  He attended Indiana University in Bloomington where he played football for both Sam Wyche and Bill Mallory before graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice in 1986.

On December 9, 1990 Bills graduated from the 48th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was appointed as a Trooper assigned to the Fort Wayne Post.  He was assigned patrol duties in Adams and Wells Counties for three years before transferring to Huntington County for one year.  In 1994, he transferred to Whitley County where he patrolled until his transfer to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) in 2009.

During his time in CVED, Bills served as a Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer and had responsibilities which included the inspection of some 2,000 school buses across nine different counties in northeast Indiana.  Bills has served the Department as a Field Training Officer, a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon, and as the Officer in Charge of the North Honor Guard Team.

Bills and his wife have a daughter who currently serves her country in the United States Naval Reserves and is working on her Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee.  They also have a son who is currently a student at Ball State University.
