La Porte County-The right lane east bound at the 42 mile marker (this is two miles east of the US 421 exit) on the Indiana Toll Road is open from an earlier fatal crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 3:16 p.m., this afternoon, one semi rear ended another semi at that location causing one of the semis to catch fire.
There is one confirmed fatality. Police and fire personnel are still on the scene at this time.
All lanes west bound are open and the right lane east bound is now open at this location.
Please seek alternate routes and avoid this area if at all possible. Expect long delays and traffic back-ups. The left lane will be closed for the next few hours for clean-up and investigation.
