Citizens on Patrol Volunteers are drawn from the ranks of our citizens police academy. These members donate their time in service to making Red Oak safer. Their motto being "volunteering to make Red Oak safer" is what drives their service to community.
They will complete 24 additional hours of training to prepare them to patrol and act as an extra set of eyes and ears for the citizens of Red Oak. They will be an integral part of the department acting as a visible deterrent to crime and reporting suspicious activity to officers. They will also assist with traffic control at accidents or traffic detours and at special events.
While they have no enforcement powers, they can assist in documenting neighborhood and business concerns. This will be accomplished by the COPs preparing reports to law enforcement resources so that effective strategies can be implemented to resolve the concerns.
Having another resource and information conduit for the community to bring concerns to the department is crucial for community safety.
