GCSO investigate animal neglect - 57-yr old woman faces possible charges after tying dog to tree & abandoning it
Greene County Sheriff's Detectives initiated an investigation on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, after learning about an incident of possible animal neglect which had occurred on Saturday, May 28, 2016. A citizen located a dog in a wooded area in the 3400 block of South Farm Road 107; the dog was tied up and abandoned. Witnesses provided information of a potential suspect.
"We are fortunate to have several animal rescue organizations in our area who are willing to step in and assist in these types of situations," states Sheriff Jim Arnott. "We want to remind people to use these available resources who can help find loving homes for these unwanted animals. It is a crime to abandon an animal and ultimately the responsibility of the owner to provide adequate care for it."
GCSO Detectives identified the 57-year old woman seen abandoning the dog and she was arrested by Deputies on Saturday, June 4, 2016. The suspect has been released from the Greene County Jail and charges have been submitted to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for further review.
*A charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.*
