Deputies arrest a man after he crashed a stolen vehicle and fled the scene

INCIDENT: Probationer Arrested After Crashing Stolen Vehicle
LOCATION: Boulder Bay, Big Bear Lake
SUSPECT: Shawn Kelly, 38-year-old WMA

SUMMARY:
At approximately 8:12 a.m. on Monday, June 6, deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a report of an overturned vehicle in the lake bed near Boulder Bay in Big Bear Lake. Deputies located an overturned white Ford truck on the shoreline with debris and work equipment strewn about. No one was found to be at the scene.
Through investigation, deputies determined that the truck had been stolen from a residence in Arrowhead by an employee of the vehicle’s registered owner. The suspect is identified as 38-year-old Shawn Kelly. Deputies made contact with Kelly and arrested him without incident.
Shawn Kelly was booked into the Big Bear Jail on felony charges of vehicle theft. A records check confirmed Kelly is currently on probation. Kelly remains in custody on the felony charge and probation hold without the possibility of bail. An arraignment hearing in this matter has been set for June 8, 2016 at San Bernardino County Superior Court.
