INCIDENT: Citizens Aid in Identifying Suspect, Burglar Arrested

LOCATION: 200 Block of Muroc Dr., Big Bear City

SUSPECT: Ryan Rymal, 35-year-old WMA
Resident of Chino

SUMMARY:

At approximately 8:30 this morning, deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station conducted an area check in the residential neighborhood surrounding the 1200 block of E. Kayah Drive in Big Bear City. Residents had reported a suspicious vehicle that was occupied by two subjects parked in the area. The subjects and vehicle left the area prior to arrival of the deputies.

Shortly after 10:00 a.m. today, deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglary at a nearby vacant residence in the 200 block of Muroc Drive in Big Bear City. Witnesses reported that the suspicious vehicle from this morning was back in the neighborhood, and were able to provide a general description of the subjects and a partial license plate of the vehicle. As deputies were arriving on scene, a male who matched the description of one of the subjects fled on foot, possibly into the forested area surrounding the neighborhood. A thorough check of the area was conducted by patrol deputies, with aerial assistance from the Sheriff’s Aviation Division, but the subject was not located.

The other subject was found in the vehicle as he was trying to leave the scene. Deputies prevented the subject’s escape and identified him as 35-year-old Ryan Rymal. Rymal was taken into custody without incident. Stolen property was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

Rymal is a resident of Chino. He and the outstanding male subject were wearing t-shirts indicating they were staff employees of a camp. The outstanding subject is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20’s. Residents are advised to beware of unknown persons in their neighborhoods who are posing as camp counselors or under the guise of any fictitious business. The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station appreciates the public’s assistance and report of suspicious activity that led to the arrest of Rymal.

Ryan Rymal was booked into the Big Bear Jail on a felony charge of burglary and misdemeanor charges of possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property valued less than $950.00. Rymal remains in custody in lieu of $35,000 bail, pending an arraignment hearing set for June 9 in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
