REPORTS OF DISCOLORED WATER INVESTIGATED, WATER IS SAFE

Reports of discolored water have been received and investigated this evening. During the course of the day today the water plant operators backwashed the one iron filter that is in operation at the water treatment plant due to the maintenance work on the other filter. The filter, used to remove oxidized iron from the source water is doing double duty while the work is performed. With increased loading on the single filter the duration of the backwash may not have been enough to complete the cleaning cycle. The iron in the water is typical of well water in the area and is of no health concern. The disinfection process is functioning and the water is safe for public consumption. We will backwash the filters again on Thursday to remove all of the accumulated iron from the filter.

The filters will be back to full operation early next week.
