Putnamville District Master Trooper Retires after 28 Years of Service
Putnamville—The Indiana State Police Putnamville District is announcing the retirement of Master Trooper John D. Goldner, a 28-year veteran of the ISP, and a resident of Vermillion County.
Goldner is a native of Clinton, Indiana and a 1980 graduate of South Vermillion High School. Goldner immediately entered the United States Marine Corps and served a four-year enlistment. Upon his honorable discharge from the USMC, Goldner began his law enforcement career in September of 1983 with the Clinton Police Department and during his CPD tenure, he also graduated from the Indiana Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
In 1988, Goldner accepted a civilian motor carrier inspector position with the Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Division (now known as the ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division). Goldner later applied for and was accepted into the 47th ISP Recruit Academy and after graduation, was appointed as a state trooper on November 19, 1989. Goldner was assigned to the former Terre Haute District until the merger with the Putnamville District in 2010. During his ISP career, Goldner has served as a road patrol officer, meth suppression officer, undercover drug investigator, and criminal detective.
Immediately following his retirement from the ISP, John and his family will move to Florida, where he has accepted a new career opportunity.
When asked, “What is it like being a police officer?” His reply is always the same, “It’s a front row seat to the greatest show on earth and I would do it all over again”.
The Goldner name is well known in the Wabash Valley law enforcement community as John’s father Mike retired from the Indiana State Police, his son Johnny and nephew Josh currently serve as officers with the Terre Haute Police Department.
