Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are continuing to assist Monterey Park Police Department investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man.  The victim was discovered in the 800 block of west El Repetto Drive, Monterey Park, on Thursday, June 09, 2016 at approximately 7:50 am.

Detectives have learned that Monterey Park Police Department personnel responded to the location regarding a “Gunshot Call.”  When officers arrived, they checked the parking lot in the rear of the location.  The officers saw a light colored Mercedes Benz with the lights on.  The officers checked the vehicle to see who was inside, but the doors were locked.

Monterey Park Police officers saw there was a male Black in the backseat of the vehicle who was non-responsive.  Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to treat the man for his injuries.  They discovered the man had been shot in the upper torso.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told detectives the victim was with a group of friends at a gathering.  They said the victim walked away from the group, and a short time later shots were heard.

Initial speculation that the shooting death was officer-involved is false.  There were no officers or deputies involved in the incident, and the suspect(s) are still outstanding.

There is no suspect information available at this time.
