Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a Blodgett man was arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Benton, MO.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a Blodgett man was arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Gene Edward Haynes (41) has been charged with the Class C felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class D felony of Driving While Suspended-Prior Offender, Class A misdemeanor of Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Class B misdemeanor of Failure to Register Motor Vehicle and the Class C felony of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Sheriff Walter states that on Monday, June 7, 2016, a detective with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office began investigating allegations that Haynes was living in a camping trailer on his family’s property in Blodgett and was currently registered as a sex offender in Corning, Arkansas. Haynes has been required to register as a sex offender since 2010 when he plead guilty to Deviate Sexual Assault in Scott County.

Statements taken from witnesses said Haynes has lived in Blodgett for over two months. One of the witnesses verified their statement by providing the detective with several pieces of recent mail addressed to Haynes in Blodgett.

On Thursday, June 9, 2016, A Scott County deputy conducted a traffic stop of Haynes for expired vehicle registration. During the stop, it was learned that Haynes driver’s license was suspended and he was placed under arrest.

While taking inventory of the vehicle’s contents, the deputy located several items of drug paraphernalia, along with a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. The substance will be submitted to the crime lab.

On June 10, 2016, warrants were issued for Haynes on the charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Suspended-Prior Offender, Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Register Motor Vehicle and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Bonds were set by the court at $35,000 and $5,000.

Sheriff Walter expects additional charges to be filed as Haynes is suspected of committing other crimes.
