6/17/16, press release: Fatal and Non-Fatal Overdose Incidents
On June 16th, 2016 at approximately 2:00 PM the Burlington Police and Fire Departments responded to an Archibald St. residence for a reported overdose call. Despite lifesaving efforts, which included the deployment of naloxone, the 27 year old male victim died at the scene. Investigators are treating the incident as a suspicious overdose death investigation.
On June 17th, 2016 at approximately 9:20 am both police and fire departments were called to a North Winooski Ave. address for another reported overdose call. In this incident, the 28 year old male survived and was taken to UVMMC for evaluation.
The Burlington Police and the City are responding to the opiate crisis. In April, the City Council approved the CommunityStat municipal effort to coordinate a regional, collaborative approach to the opiate crisis. Additional municipal and community efforts contributed to the reduction of the Chittenden County treatment waiting list. The Police Department has also increased the number of foot patrols and reinvigorated and expanded its community policing efforts in order to build trust in the neighborhoods the officers serve. We once again voice the need for treatment on demand for all Vermonters struggling with opiate addiction.
Burlington has a long history of active engagement and strong neighborhoods. Please help us share this information to prevent the potential for future lives lost.
